Each of the women embarks on a journey of self-discovery and undergoes a moment of empowering awakening. Its three protagonists are Altha, the healer, put on trial for murdering a man and accused of using black arts Violet, a fifteen-year-old girl, a daughter of a viscount, who is subjected to an assault with far-reaching consequences which only she, the victim, is expected to suffer and Kate, a woman running from an abusive relationship with the father of her unborn child.Įach of the women is subjected to brutalities which are sanctioned by the laws and mores that are designed to destroy them and to protect their oppressors. Weyward is a story of three generations of the Weyward women, spanning four hundred years between 1619 and the present.
